CITY OF WINOOSKI PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

The City of Winooski is looking to fill several “summer” work positions starting in early May. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, and have a valid driver’s license with CDL preferred. Prior equipment operation, construction experience, and mechanical skill experience helpful but not required. Candidates must have the ability to perform heavy physical work without limitations in all weather conditions. Must be able to work in a team environment or individually without supervision. Work will include landscaping, paving, concrete installation, excavation and utility repairs, building maintenance, etc. Salary $12/hour. SPECIAL ALERTS

  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR SIDEWALK CLEARING:  The following is an excerpt from City of Winooski Ordinances:

Section 17-6   Snow and Ice Removal.

(a) A person owning a building from which snow, ice or water slides or falls, or may slide or fall, upon a street or sidewalk shall put and maintain such guards upon the roof of the building as will prevent snow, ice or water from sliding or falling from the same upon the street or sidewalk.

(b) The occupant, tenant, or in case there shall be no occupant, the owner, agent or person having the care of land or buildings bordering on a street, square or other public place where there is a sidewalk, footway, awning or shade, shall, after the ceasing to fall of snow, if in the daytime within four (4) hours, and if in the nighttime before 12:00 noon the next succeeding day, cause the snow to be removed from such sidewalk, footway, awning or shade. If such person shall fail to remove the snow from such sidewalk, footway, awning or shade, the superintendent of streets shall do so at the expense and charge of such owner or occupant, which expense and charge may be recovered with full costs in an action in the name and behalf of the city, and such owner or occupant shall also, upon conviction, be fined for the violation of this section. The chief of police shall promptly notify the superintendent of streets of any violations of the provisions of this section.

(c) A person who shall throw or put, or cause to be thrown or put, snow or ice in a street shall cause the same to be broken up and spread evenly over the surface of such street. (Rev. Ords. 1944, ss 76-78)
