Veggie Town Title

Veggie Town is the Teen Advisory Board's Summer Food Initiative.

Veggie Town is a Farm and Garden that is located at Landry Park next to Community Garden sites and the pool.  Six teens were hired to work at Veggie Town for the 2006 summer season.  We are hoping to expand our garden area for the 2007 season and possibly expand our teen staff too.

Through their work, the teens learned about farming, gardening, and healthy living, and distributed free produce from the garden.  The teens also ran the farm-stand at the Winooski Farmers’ Market where they learned important job, financial, and customer service skills.

As part of the program, the teens helped with the teaching of the 4-H Growing Connections Curriculum to youth from the Summer Youth Enrichment Program and mentored youth from the Winooski Garden and Cooking Club.

The teens also helped teach 4-H Growing Connections Curriculum to the Summer Youth Enrichment Program.

Throughout the 2006 growing season, Veggie Town donated over 800 pounds of food to Winooski residents via organizations including the free Summer Youth Food and Enrichment Program, The Weekend Food Bag Program, The Winooski Food Shelf, The Winooski Family Center, The Winooski Senior Center, Spring Gardens, and The Winooski School District to help increase food access throughout the city!
