Veggie Town Title

Teen Farm and Garden Program was started in 2006 as a collaboration between Winooski Parks and Recreation and Casey Family Services to provide a positive summer experience for local teens and to address the lack of access to fresh food in Winooski. Veggie Town 2007 finished a very successful second year at the end of August.  Eight teens were hired at the beginning on June and six completed the 10-week summer working and learning experience.  Teens learned important job skills, how to garden, cooking skills, attended financial education workshops, opened and learned about savings accounts, and managed a stand at the Winooski Farmer's Market.  The Veggie Town Program also donated almost 1000 pounds of food to the Winooski community through the Winooski Family Center, The Winooski School District, The Parks and Recreation Summer Food and Enrichment Program and more!

This program was made possible by the support of the Teen Advisory Board, The Winooski Parks and Recreation Department, The Winooski Community Development Department, Casey Family Services, the Winooski Gardening and Cooking Club, and many volunteers.  We’d like to thank all of our supporters.
